CordeValle Golf Club - San Martin, California

On Sunday the American Jimmy Walker won the Frys.com Open, hosted by CordeValle Golf Club. This week's course review takes a look at the layout and some of the playing features of this beautiful golf establishment in the heart of California's wine country.

As the centrepiece of the CordeValle resort in San Martin, California, the course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The CordeValle golf course lies in the heart of a lush valley and is surrounded by all the comforts visitors would expect from a luxury resort – this makes the course an attractive option for golfers who would like a weekend away in one of the most scenic areas in the western United States.

The 18-hole championship course offers playability to golfers of most handicaps, with an undulating terrain that calls for careful shot planning and club selection on each hole. The bunkering at CordeValle presents a challenge, and players who pay special attention to their short game will find their accuracy rewarded at most of the holes.

Water doesn't play a major role at CordeValle, except for the creek that runs along several holes on the back nine. However, the rough is made up of native grasses that make for some tricky golf – staying firmly on the fairway is a definite must for players who wish to keep their scores down after 18 holes at this scenic course.

All in all, the course at CordeValle is challenging but highly rewarding for mid-to-low handicap players. The occasional errant shot shouldn't land weekend golfers in too much trouble, keeping frustration levels low to ensure a round of enjoyable golf. With all the amenities on offer at CordeValle, golfers and their families should enjoy a few days spent at this elegant resort.

CordeValle offers several accommodation and golf packages to visitors. For more information, visit CordeValle Golf Club.
