Golf Results - 25 September 2012

On the US PGA Tour, the Tour Championship was won by Brandt Snedeker in a three-shot victory over Ryan Moore.

As the 2012 season drew to its official end during Sunday's final round the two Americans dominated play at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Snedeker had tied with England's Justin Rose in top position going into the final round, but a late charge for the trophy by Moore caused the champion to play his shots carefully over the back nine as he sought to maintain his lead.

After eighteen holes, Snedeker's three-shot victory assured him not only the title but also the title of FedEx playoff winner. With an impressive prize bonus of $ 10 million, the talented American had ample reason to smile when he lifted the trophy against a classic Georgia sunset on Sunday.

The European Tour was in recess last week as the continent's Ryder Cup team prepares to take on the United States on home soil at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois. With some of the finest players in the world facing off in the Ryder Cup next week, golf fans will be treated to an exciting weekend of competitive Matchplay when the first players tee off on Thursday.

In Women's golf, the American Stacy Lewis was victorious at the Navistar LPGA Classic on Sunday to extend her lead at the top of the world rankings. As Sunday's final round unfolded in fine fall weather in Prattville, Alabama, Lewis stayed three strokes ahead of her nearest rival, the teen golfing sensation Lexi Thompson.

Carding a three-under-par 69 on Sunday, Lewis secured $ 1.3 million prize money as she clinched her third LPGA title this season. Thompson came second, with the American Angela Stanford sharing third place with Haeji Kang and M.J. Hur of South Korea.
