Player Profile - Adam Scott
This week’s player profile highlights the career of Australian golfing star Adam Scott. Born in 1980 and hailing from the city of Adelaide on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Scott enjoyed a prestigious education at several schools, graduating high school at the Kooralbyn International School which provided him with training in golf while completing his studies. Scott was also registered at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
In 2001, Scott made his professional debut on the European Tour, winning a tournament in his first year at the Alfred Dunhill Championship held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The following season Scott continued his winning ways, lifting trophies at the Scottish PGA Championship and the Qatar Masters. In 2003, Scott set his sights on the US PGA Tour, winning the Deutsche Bank Championship. Meanwhile, back on the European Tour, he carded a victory at the Scandinavian Masters to finish off the season.
From 2004, Scott has been focussed on the US PGA Tour, with wins at the Player’s Championship and Booze Allen Classic in that year and at the Nissan Open in 2005 catapulting him into the top ten rankings, where he remained for 180 weeks. In 2009, however, Scott saw his form dip somewhat as he weathered swing problems.
This year, Scott’s game has been on the rise. In May he won the Valero Texas Open, and his finishes in all tournaments have improved markedly compared with the 2009 season. At the weekend, Scott continued his return to fine form by winning the Singapore Open for the third time in his career. These victories mark the return to winning form of an exceptional player who will be wowing the crowds for many years to come.
Scott is known for his charming and captivating personality, and was at one time dating the actress Kate Hudson, and international tennis star Anna Ivanovic. He is adored by fans in his native Australia, who see him as Greg Norman’s successor to the throne of Australian golf.
