Player Profile - Brittany Lincicome
This week’s player profile features the American golfer Brittany Lincicome, winner of last week’s Shoprite LPGA Classic.
Twenty-five year old Lincicome was born in 1985 to a family residing in St Petersburg, Florida. Crediting her parents Tom and Angie for her early start in golf, she took up the game in earnest at the age of nine and has never looked back. As Lincicome’s amateur career took shape, she competed in over 100 golfing events that helped hone her skills on the course.
In 2001 she won the American Junior Golf Association tournament at Chateau Elan, a title she would win again in 2003 along with the Avilla Junior Classic. In 2004, her amateur career was in full swing with a victory at the Harder Hall Invitational. In the same year, Lincicome contested both the U.S. Women’s Open and the State Farm Classic as an amateur, leading the Women’s Open after the first round. With these impressive victories to her name, it was time for Lincicome to turn professional.
In December 2004, Lincicome joined the LPGA Tour at the age of 19, having finished 20th at qualifying school. After an initial period of settling in, the young golfer was first victorious at the 2006 HSBC Women’s Matchplay Championship, weathering serious competition to take the title. The following season saw her win again at the Ginn Open, beating Lorena Ochoa by a single stroke for the trophy.
Two years later, in April 2009, Lincicome proved she was a force to be reckoned with when she won her first major. In a final round showdown against compatriots Cristie Kerr and Kristie McPherson, Lincicome kept her nerve and won by one stroke with Kerr and McPherson tied for second place. On Sunday, Lincicome once again proved that she is a serious contender on the LPGA when she won the Shoprite LPGA Classic.
