Player Profile - Jason Dufner

On Sunday the American Jason Dufner won his first-ever PGA title at the New Orleans Classic. This week's player profile introduces golf fans to this talented player as he joins the ranks of US PGA Tour title winners.

Dufner was born in 1977 in North Olmsted near Cleveland, Ohio. His family moved twice during his childhood years, first to Washington D.C. and then to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was in the state of Florida, which is famous for its excellent golf courses that Dufner first took up the game of golf. By the time he graduated from high school he had played on the St Thomas Aquinas High School golf team for three years and was ready to pursue the game at a high level.

During his years of study at Auburn University where he graduated with an Economics degree in the year 2000, Dufner racked up three tournament wins and was an Honourable Mention All-American in 1997. Having completed his college education, Dufner set his sights on the professional golf circuit, making his debut on the Nationwide Tour in 2001.

The early 2000s saw Dufner weathering the challenges of playing golf at the highest level. From 2001 to 2007 he played on the Nationwide and US PGA tours, winning twice on the Nationwide Tour before finally confirming his place on the PGA Tour in the 2007 season. Since then Dufner has been a regular fixture in North America, charming fans with his no-stress demeanour and fun-loving personality which have won him many admirers both in the crowd and amongst his professional colleagues.

On Sunday Dufner beat veteran PGA Tour champion Ernie Els to win the New Orleans Classic in a tense playoff. Golf fans can look forward to many more exciting moments from this loveable player as he continues his rise in the world rankings.
