Player Profile - JJ Henry

On Sunday the American JJ Henry won his first tournament in six years at the 2012 Reno-Tahoe Open. This week's player profile highlights some of Henry's recent career milestones as he joins the PGA Tour's winners' circle once again.

Born in Fairfield Connecticut, 37-year-old Henry has enjoyed a successful career on the US PGA Tour. After a promising collegiate golf career, Henry turned professional in 1998 after completing his education at Texas Christian University.

In 1999 Henry joined the Nationwide Tour where his golfing skills became hard-weathered under the pressure of competitive professional golf. Rising to the challenge, Henry consolidated his game during the 1999 season and won his first tournament the following year when he clinched the 2000 Knoxville Open title. Following this victory, Henry joined the US PGA Tour in the 2001 season and has played on the Tour ever since.

Though Henry found his feet quickly on the PGA Tour, it would be five seasons before his first victory at the 2006 Buick Championship where he beat compatriots Hunter Mahan and Ryan Moore by a commanding three strokes to win. Following this victory, Henry was a member of the American team at the 2006 Ryder Cup which took place in Kildare, Ireland.

Following this initial win, Henry frequently placed in the top 10 and top 20 at PGA Tour events, but a second win was elusive. This season, Henry showed signs of a return to winning form when he lead the 2012 Byron Nelson Championship in the final round, losing to Jason Dufner because of a double bogey during the closing moments of the tournament.

On Sunday, Henry was victorious for the second time on the PGA Tour when he won the Reno-Tahoe Open. Golf fans can look forward to many more sterling performances from this seasoned champion.
