Player Profile: Peter Hanson

On Sunday, Sweden's Peter Hanson won his 12th professional title when he lifted the trophy at the BMW Masters. This week's player profile highlights the recent career achievements of this seasoned player as he continues to make his mark on the world of professional golf.

35 Year-old Hanson was born in Svedala, Sweden and grew up with a love of golf. After turning professional at the age of 21, Hanson has spent the past 14 years establishing himself as a forerunner on the European Tour, having started his career on the second-tier Challenge Tour.

Hanson's winning streak on the European Tour, which began in the 2005 season, has seen the easy-going Swede victorious a total of six times. His first win was at the Andalusian Open in southern Spain in 2005, where he beat Peter Gustafsson in a playoff to win his first title.

After weathering the competition and challenging courses on the European Tour, Hanson carded his second victory in 2008 at the SAS Masters, where a great final round performance allowed him to beat Nick Dougherty and Pelle Edberg by a single stroke to lift the trophy. Two victories in the 2010 season, the Iberdrola Open and Czech Open, confirmed Hanson's place at the highest level of European golf.

This season, Hanson has enjoyed renewed success. After a slow start to the year, the Swede's fortunes turned around in September when he won the KLM Open. On Sunday, Hanson won the BMW Masters in a one-stroke victory over world number one Rory McIlroy – further proof of the Swede's superior game and ability to play well under pressure.

Off the course, Hanson resides in Trelleborg, Sweden with his wife Sanna. Following their marriage in 2005, the couple are proud parents to their daughter Stella, and their son Tim, who was born in 2011.
