Player Profile - Peter Senior

This week’s player profile showcases the career of 2010 Australian PGA champion Peter Senior. Born in Singapore in 1959, Senior showed an interest in golf at a young age that blossomed into a passion in his teens. At the age of nineteen he was ready to go professional, and enjoyed a successful debut year playing on the Australasian Tour. In his second year on the Aussie tour he won the South Australian Open, putting him on the map as an ambitious and talented young player.

Consolidating his early success on his home tour, Senior took the challenge and joined the European Tour in 1984. He enjoyed a successful career in Europe, weathering the challenges of top tier professional golf and attaining a career best of number seven on the tour in 1987. His victories in Europe include the 1986 PLM Open, the Johnny Walker Monte Carlo Open in 1987, the Panasonic Open in 1990 and the Benson & Hedges International in 1992.

With success in Europe to his name, Peter Senior joined the Japanese Tour in 1992. His three victories on this circuit - the 1992 Bridgestone ASO Open, The Crowns in 1993 and the 1995 Dunlop open – allowed him to make his mark on yet another continent.

In recent years Senior has played mostly on the Australasian Tour, with victories at the Australian PGA Championship in 2003. At the weekend, Senior won the PGA Championship for a second time, the second oldest golfer to win on the Australasian PGA Tour.

At the age of fifty-one, the seasoned golfer shows no sign of retiring from the game despite his family commitments and the many commercial interests that he owns in Australia. Senior lives in Hope Island, Queensland with his wife June who he married in 1984.
