On Sunday the American Scott Piercy was victorious at the Canadian Open, beating William McGirt and Robert Garrigus by a single stroke. This week's player profile introduces golf fans to this talented player who is making his mark on the US PGA Tour.
Born in 1978 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Piercy took up the game of golf during his high school years. By 2001 the 23-year-old Piercy turned professional and has since enjoyed a successful career in North America on several golf tours including the US PGA Tour.
Piercy's professional career began in the 2001 season when he played on several mini-tours in the South-western United States, finally ascending to the Nationwide Tour where he honed his professional golf skills to a high level. Having weathered the demands of professional golf, Piercy emerged as a regular contender in Nationwide Tour championships – in 2008 he won the Wichita Open and the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. Piercy finished the 2008 season ninth on the Nationwide Tour's money list and qualified for the PGA Tour in the 2009 season.
Piercy's PGA Tour debut season saw the young golfer showing early signs of success as he consolidated his game and set his sights on victory. The American recorded twenty-five top twenty finished in the 2009 season, ending the year ranked 90th in the world and retaining his tour card for 2010.
2010 was a watershed year for Piercy as his game plateaued, forcing the young golfer to make some adjustments to his golf strategy. His hard work paid off in the 2011 season when he won the Reno-Tahoe Open, his first PGA Tour title. Piercy was now part of the PGA Tour's winners' circle and a regular contender at events across North America.
On Sunday Piercy won his second PGA Tour victory at the Canadian Open, giving golf fans a taste of things to come as the talented American continues his ascent on the Tour.
