Player Profiles - Making their mark

This week’s player profile will take a different form, focusing on players who have made their mark on world golf in the year 2010. For the Briton Lee Westwood, 2010 has been a season to remember. With several wins to his name in the past 12 months, this highly skilled player recently did what many had thought was impossible when he dethroned former world number one, Tiger Woods. Westwood has enjoyed a successful career, and this season has been its high point thus far but golf fans can look forward to more impressive performances by Westwood as he seeks to consolidate his place at the top of world golf.

Jim Furyk of the United States was crowned PGA Player of the Year this week. This award is most fitting for Furyk who has won three championships this season and has enjoyed numerous top ten finishes. Notably, the Player of the Year is chosen by the top players on the US PGA Tour, reflecting the opinion of some of world golf’s finest players. Furyk will no doubt seek to make the 2011 season his yet again, after having weathered the challenges of 2010.

With his high octane game and thirst for victory, Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland has emerged as a contender for the coveted world number one title. The 2010 season has seen him lift the trophy at tournaments including the US Open, his first major title. With the running for world number one very much open, fans can look forward to McDowell’s flamboyant game as he vies for the title.

Former world number one Tiger Woods has seen his game falter as events in his personal life take centre stage. Loyal Tiger fans will take comfort in the fact that his game appears to be stabilising and will be looking forward to 2011 which may see a Tiger comeback – with his technique stable Tiger Woods is still a match for anyone in the top ten of world golf.
