On Sunday the 31st America’s DA Points won the Houston Open, hosted by Redstone Golf Club. In this course review we highlight the golf offering at this modern and beautifully designed facility.
A green sanctuary amid the buzz of big city life in Houston, Texas, Redstone Golf Club first opened to the public in 2003, making it one of the most modern courses in the area. The Tournament Course which hosts the Houston Open is even newer, and is now in its fifth year of operation. The Jim Hardy and Peter Jacobson design ensures a challenging round of golf for anyone attempting the Tournament Course, while the Member Course provides a more relaxed round of golf for members and guests at Redstone.
Players who are keen to challenge and improve their golf skills will enjoy the Rees Jones/David Toms design that makes the Tournament Course popular with low-handicap players and pros alike. If the prospect of playing a championship course is daunting, help is at hand from one of the golf pros who offer lessons and golf clinics to visitors at Redstone.
As one of very few public golf courses that host PGA tournaments, Redstone is accessible to the public throughout the year when tournaments are not taking place – bookings can be made through the course Redstone Golf Club. Here are some highlights from two of the course’s signature holes on the front nine:
The sixth hole, also a par 4, may be daunting or challenging depending on how much you love water. Flanked by a wetland pond on one side and a small water hazard combined with a bunker on the other, the fairway is a potential danger zone for errant shots. Golfers who weather these hazards may be able to score well on this challenging hole.
