MAJOR WINNERS, RYDER CUP PLAYERS HEADLINE GARY PLAYER INVITATIONAL FIELD

8 November 2013, Cape Town – The Gary Player Invitational presented by Coca-Cola will contain a field of professional golfers with 11 Major victories, Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup appearances, and close to 300 titles between them when the charity tournament is played over the Lost City Golf Course at the Sun City Resort from 16-17 November.

Tournament host Gary Player will be joined by Retief Goosen, Tony Johnstone, Niclas Fasth, Thomas Levet and Cheyenne Woods, as well as a host of celebrities, sports stars and business leaders in a bid to raise funds for the Wildlands Conservation Trust in partnership with Qhubeka and Wings and Wishes.

Johnstone, Fasth and Levet are the latest to confirm their support of Player's event.

Sweden's Fasth finished second to David Duval in the 2001 Open Championship, as well as tied 10th in the 2003 PGA Championship and fourth in the 2007 US Open. He played for Europe in the 2002 Ryder Cup and has won 12 tournaments worldwide.

Frenchman Levet is also a 12-time winner. The highlight of his career has been his second-place finish in the 2002 Open Championship after a four-man playoff involving eventual champion Ernie Els, and tied fifth in the 2004 Open Championship. He represented Europe in the 2004 Ryder Cup.

Zimbabwe's Johnstone heads to South Africa on the back of being one of Nick Price's International Team captain's assistants in the recent Presidents Cup. A winner of 25 tournaments, he ranks sixth in all-time victories on the Sunshine Tour with 17 titles, including the 1984 and 1993 SA Open and SA Masters, and the 1989 and 1998 SA PGA Championship. He's also a former winner of the Gary Player Invitational, teaming up with Angel Cabrera to win in 2009.

"I think we have a wonderful field of professional golfers who all share the desire to give back through the game that has been so good to them. And I think they'll definitely make for an exciting tournament with lots of fun on the golf course," said Player.
