World Golf News - 25 October 2011

On the US PGA Tour, a triumphant Luke Donald won the final championship of the 2011 season to finish number one on the American money list.

The British champion executed a fantastic final round at Disney World to win the Children's Miracles Classic. After starting Sunday's round five strokes off the lead, Donald fired an astounding 64 to finish 8-under-par - three strokes ahead of American Justin Leonard.

This victory at the season-ending Children's Miracles Classic marks a major milestone in Donald's career. Having started the tournament level-pegging with the American Webb Simpson on the US money list, Donald edged out his competitor to top the list for 2011.

Donald currently also leads the European money list, with Rory McIlroy tailing him in second place. A double victory on both sides of the Atlantic would mark a career first for Donald.

On the European Tour, a victory at the Castello Masters marked the end of a three-year winning drought for Spain's Sergio Garcia.

Garcia, who has graced the world's most challenging and prestigious golf courses in the past, had been struggling for a win since his last victory at the 2008 Champions Tournament in China. When an opportunity presented itself during the third and fourth rounds, the Spaniard reminded golf fans of his winning ways by beating compatriot Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano by an impressive eleven strokes. Starting the final round in the lead, Garcia consolidated his lead as Fernandez-Castano kept up the pressure.

Garcia is in the process of recovering from a recent slump in performance as he weathers many challenges on both professional and personal fronts. Fans of Sergio Garcia will take heart in this victory and will be anticipating a comeback for the former Ryder Cup player and transatlantic champion.
