World Golf News - 31 October 2011

The US PGA Tour moved to Malaysia last week as the co-sanctioned CIMB Asia Pacific Classic drew some of the game's finest players from around the globe to compete for the $1.3 Million prize money in Kuala Lumpur.

In a final round that took place in extremely hot summer weather, victory was seized by the American Bo Van Pelt - the second PGA Tour win of his career. Making good on a slim one-shot overnight lead over his compatriot Jeff Overton, Van Pelt played an exceptional round of golf on Sunday to card a six-stroke victory. With a series of flawless shots and a barrage of birdies on the back nine the American wowed golf fans, including Malaysia's king, with an impressive display of form.

This is Van Pelt's second win on the US PGA Tour. His last victory was in 2009 at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

In Europe, Spain's Sergio Garcia continued his great form by winning the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama. This win, which comes only a week after his victory at last week's Castello Masters, marks the return of Garcia's good form after a period of difficulty.

In an exciting final round showdown against fellow-Spaniard Miguel-Angel Jiminez, Garcia made par for the day to win by a margin of one stroke. For his own part Jiminez unleashed an impressive final round performance, keeping Garcia on his toes throughout.

Garcia's back-to-back wins are sure to excite his ardent fans who have been anticipating the Spaniard's return to the winner's circle after a lull in his game that took place over the past two years. Sunday's win at Valderrama holds special significance for Garcia, who was last victorious there during the 1997 Ryder Cup when he represented Europe. With his new found form, Sergio Garcia could be destined to represent Europe once again in the near future.
