World Golf Results

On the US PGA Tour, Zach Johnson won the Colonial Invitational after keeping Jason Dufner at bay over an action-packed final round.

As the two Americans made their way around the course for the last time on Sunday, the crowd in Fort Worth, Texas enjoyed a display of golfing skill and high-octane play in fine summer weather as Johnson and Dufner took their battle for the trophy to the very last hole.

On the back nine, Johnson took the lead and was three strokes ahead of Dufner when he sank a par putt at the final hole. However, a two-stroke penalty he incurred for not marking his ball correctly on the final green cut his margin of victory down to just a single stroke. Narrowly avoiding a playoff with Dufner, the American lifted the trophy for the first time in two years, when he won the same tournament in 2010.

In Europe, Britain's Luke Donald won the PGA Championship to reclaim his position as the world's top-ranked golfer. In a tournament which was dominated by players from the UK, Donald played effortlessly in the final round as he carved out a four-stroke victory over fellow-Briton Justin Rose.

Finishing the tournament with a score of 273, or 15-under-par, Donald is now the third player to clinch the title in successive years in the history of the PGA Championship, joining the ranks of Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie

Having won the tournament, Donald now replaces Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy at the top of the world golf rankings – the fourth time he has enjoyed the status of world number one in just 12 months. With the balance of power shifting constantly in world golf and with a host of talented players emerging from both sides of the Atlantic, fans should not be surprised to see a few more changes at the top of international golf.
